Royal Welsh Show: Meirion Owen's Quack Pack
The Royal Welsh show in Builth Wells, Powys, is the biggest event in the Welsh agricultural calendar, and a great place to experience rural and outdoor activities from traditional to extraordinary. In Summer 2009, Julia took on Matt at the fine art of duck herding.
Forest Wildlife: Forestry Commission: Haldon Forest Park
In autumn, while some animals are thinking about bedding down for the winter hibernation, the rare fallow deer in Haldon Forest Park, Devon, are at their most active. The annual rut is a ritual parade where bucks make intimidating noises and size up their rivals, before winning a mate. Jules joined a Forestry Commission ranger at sunrise, to get a peek at their extraordinary behaviour.
Cornwall Seal Group
When the seal pup season began in October 2009, Matt joined the Cornwall Seal Group as it set about monitoring the progress of local seals. He also met up with members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who are on call 24/7 ready to rescue seal pups who've been abandoned, or pregnant mothers in trouble.
